Ravspec Cars In Detail…

Ravspec Cars

I spent the last week sorting through all the photos I had taken so I can provide a bit more detail about the Subaru cars from Ravpec for your Tuesday read during your morning commute or afternoon lunch.

Ravspec showcased some great looking cars at the NYIAS 2014. The ones that stood out the most for me were the Subaru BRZ and newly released 2015 STI.

What can I say about these amazing cars? The colors alone speak for themselves. I expect no less from Subaru and the aftermarket performance vendors.

After going to the show a second time, I was able to reach out to Ravspec and was kind enough to provide some mods that were installed on these beauties.

First up is the Subaru WRB STi 2015.

MXP Exhaust

I believe this exhaust is the same that was previously installed on any 2008+ GV model.

Also, installed is the STi rear lip.

The exhaust tips seem to align well. However, I’m not sure if the stock hangers were used.

KW Suspension

Adding the KW Suspension to eliminate the gap in the wheel well definitely gives the car a better drop but not too low where it looks bagged.

What better way to make the front look even more aggressive? Add a STI front lip!

Swapped out the stock wheels for a set of RAYS Gramslight 57C6.

What can’t be seen are the GTSPEC Suspension, Rear camber, toe, trailing arms, and chassis reinforcement bracing.

Hmmm…Ready for a track day?

Next up is the Subaru BRZ.

Out of all the BRZ’s I’ve seen on the road, this show car is next to none.

Varis Body Kit

I’m not sure what I like more. The yellow paint or the varis wide body kit.

VOLK TE37SL Black Edition

These wheels have to be my favorite. Unfortunately, its also one of the most expensive Volk sets at around $3,200. The Volks are wrapped with Toyo R888s tires.

Voltex GT Spoiler

To add to the wide body varis kit, is the Voltex GT Spoiler which is  made out of carbon fiber. I am not sure if this is the Type 7 version. Can anyone confirm this?

Ravspec also had a Greddy Turbo Kit, GTSPEC Braces, and KW ClubSpec 2 way coilovers installed.

Subaru and Ravspec Invade NYIAS 2014

NYIAS 2014

Last week, I had the opportunity to visit the Jacob Javits Center to check out the New York International Auto Show 2014. Since it was opening day, I knew it would get crowded really fast and would be difficult to take photos with people swarming around every vehicle. My only focus was to see the new 2015 Subaru STi in person. I decided to bring my Canon Rebel 4Ti with a 17-40mm ultra wide angle L series lens to get some practice in.

I also read on Facebook that Ravspec was showcasing the new 2015 Subaru STi with some modifications at the NYIAS 2014.  That got me curious on what was done. We’ll come back to that later.

Since most people have seen the overall exterior photos of the car, I’m going to concentrate on the close-ups and interior.

First off, is the infamous spoiler that everyone loves and hates.

The spoiler has the same design as the previous model. Nothing new but still aggressive looking to turn a few heads. If you notice the trunk shape, it resembles the Legacy model that the spoiler is attached to.

What’s new in the rear is a diffuser that is simple and subtle looking but yet effective.

The shape and contour of the diffuser mixes well with the exhaust trim. The only thing I didn’t like was how cheap the plastic material felt.

The wheels are definitely a nice upgrade from the previous model. I love the iconic gold and blue theme that everyone is infatuated with. The multi spoke wheel has the combination style of the GV based Enkeis and limited edition BBS wheels.

I wouldn’t mind having these as a winter set in cherry blossom red to match my color theme.

Now the interior is another story. Subaru did somewhat listen to the community by adding a D shaped steering wheel and upgraded the center console.

Subaru decided to remove the STi emblem from the airbag panel to this silver cheap plastic piece. Not sure what they were thinking here. The leather with the cherry blossom red trim was very comfortable to hold on to and had good grip placement.

The center head console isn’t really much to look at either. Subaru did add a carbon fiber trim. I couldn’t tell if it was true CF or a wrap with clear coat spray. I do like the new A/C knobs that are rigid on the sides and have a red ring around them.

One major mod that a lot of GV/ GR owners did on their cars were to add a push start system that costs roughly $300.00 for parts and probably another $300 for labor. This new model has it as seen above!

The shifter console has been upgraded as well which originated on the BRZ when it was first released.

The engine bay looks pretty much the same as the previous model. It is the same engine after all…

Lastly, I’m going to briefly discuss a well sought out topic that a lot of Subaru enthusiasts have already voiced.

The “Evo” looking front.

Front Hood and Grille
Front Hood and Grille

I am on the same view point as everyone else but I’m sure the performance vendors will find a way to dress it up and make it aesthetically pleasing as they always have. Swapping out the grille for an aggressive piece will change the look and even adding a front lip will do wonders. I will be honest here. It’s starting to grow on me…

As mentioned earlier in the post, Ravspec also had a booth set up with a few of their cars including the 2015 Subaru STi to showcase what can be done with a few performance parts.

If you never heard of Ravspec, they specialize in JDM wheel fitment, suspension, and performance upgrades. They are located in Deer Park, NY.

With the work done on their  Subaru STi and BRZ, I am confident the popularity will shift quite rapidly. I’m a believer!

Stay tuned for the next post as I will be discussing some of the modifications done with the cars to give everyone a closer insight alongside other vehicles at the NYIAS 2014.

Questions and comments are greatly appreciated.
